Still 17 Ending Review
Still 17 has one of the most emotionally satisfying endings I’ve watched in a kdrama. I’m really pleased with how each character’s journey ended.
I love that Seo-ri ultimately decided not to pursue her old dream of playing violin in Germany.
I love that she realized her dreams and priorities have changed.
Seo-ri already spent a lot of time mourning what she lost during those 13 years she was in a coma and I’m glad she was able to let go with no regrets.
I also enjoyed Seo-ri’s initial reluctance to pursue music therapy because of how long it would take and how old she would be by the end.
As someone who didn’t take the expected path from high school to college to a full-time job and still trying to find her way, I found Seo-ri trying to figure out her future path so relatable.
I also loved the bittersweet parts of the Still 17 finale.
The revelation about Seo-ri’s uncle was particularly devastating. My heart broke over his dedication and tireless devotion to Seo-ri and protecting her home. And Seo Ri wishing her uncle did abandon her if it meant he was alive? I bawled my eyes out.
Seo-ri being reunited with her aunt and Hyung-tae was also handled realistically.
There is still distance and awkwardness between Seo-ri and her aunt but they remain connected through her young cousin, Min-kyu.
Seo-ri gets closure with Hyung-tae but he has no place in her newfound family. It was sad but realistic seeing him absent from her life when the drama jumped forward 2 years later.
I’m glad that Still 17 didn’t try to force them into Seo-ri’s found family.
